A legislator who represents north Shreveport is joining the ranks of officials calling for a new traffic light on a stretch of busy highway where two children have been killed by cars in less than a year.

District 4 state Rep. Patrick Williams announced Friday he plans to introduce a resolution Monday calling for the signal in the 4600 block of North Market Street, which also is state Highway 1.

Williams said he will introduce House Concurrent Resolution 218 in the Louisiana House Transportation Committee.

Shreveport traffic engineers have been directed to study the need for a reduced speed limit or a traffic signal there as well.
